V115 Studio

In the heart of Copenhagen, we have transformed an old shop from 1856 into V115 – our studio collective and platform for architecture.

The vision for V115 has been to create an interdisciplinary office and platform for architecture that fosters new ways of working and collaborating. The multifunctional spaces serve as an office, workshop, and exhibition space, where we invite the public and other practioners to participate in exhibitions, talks, and various events. The office and exhibition space have large storefront windows facing the street, displaying our ongoing work and experiments, engaging passersby and inviting them into our creative process. On the quiet, green courtyard side, the meeting room, workshop, and kitchen are located, providing spaces for confidential conversations and focused work. The renovation aimed to create better cohesion between the rooms, optimize the floor plan, and strengthen the direct connection to both the street and the courtyard.

The transformation focused on preserving and highlighting the shop's original details, with the majority of necessary additions made using sustainable, biobased materials. The aim has been to retain all historical details and traces from the building’s lifespan while adding warmth, tactility, and functionality to the spaces. The original timber-framed walls, stone and brick walls, stone and wooden floors, glass ceilings, and stucco work have been left intact, giving each room its own unique character. Window frames, interior surfaces, and woodwork have been repaired and repainted.

All built-in furniture has been custom-designed and adapted to the space to respect and complement the room's details – including ceiling-high bookshelves, worktables, and a wooden kitchen, along with details and custom-designed fixtures in raw aluminium. The spaces have high ceilings, with acoustic panels and linen curtains added to improve sound quality. The curtains also serve to create privacy and flexible room divisions. After the renovation, all rooms now have a natural palette of materials and colors, with original details and added elements presented in their raw state, reminding us of the spaces' history and new purpose.
