Slivsø Nature Center

The vision for Slivsø Nature Pavilions has been to create a local gathering place that connects nature, architecture, and history. The project consists of a series of wooden pavilions, each enhancing Slivsø's varied natural experiences: the expansive horizon between sky and lake, the wild grass along the lakeshore, the living forest, and the lake's rich fish and bird life. The new additions utilize and draw inspiration from the area's existing structures to create flexible new learning spaces for nature education with a minimal footprint. The facades’ woven wooden planks are a reinterpretation of the weaving technique used by the area's Stone Age settlers for their fishing fences 5,000 years ago. The entire building structure is made of recycled wood to minimize the climate footprint and to inspire users to respect nature and learn more about the biological life cycle.
