House in Rörum

The house is located on a historic apple plantation in Skåne, surrounded by traditional barn houses that reflect the region’s agricultural heritage. Our vision was to create a modern barn house that harmonizes with its surroundings while dissolving the boundaries between interior and exterior spaces.

This design thoughtfully combines traditional and contemporary materials, construction methods, and details to enhance both functionality and aesthetic appeal. Natural materials are employed to strengthen the connection between the outdoors and the interior environment. The exterior features a light gray plaster facade with texture, complemented by a durable metal roof and grayed wooden sliding doors. These doors are an interpretation of classic wooden barn doors, redesigned to allow light to filter through, creating dynamic shades within the interior and enhancing the interaction between inside and outside.

Inside, the design prioritizes a calming atmosphere, characterized by a natural material palette that fosters tranquility. The plastered white walls enhance the sense of spaciousness, while polished concrete floors connect with the landscape outside. The custom-designed wooden acoustic ceiling contributes to better sound quality while providing warmth and tactility throughout the space. The use of wood in the doors, wall cladding, and kitchen elements reinforces this warmth, creating an inviting environment. This careful interplay of materials creates a cohesive aesthetic that honors traditional craftsmanship and natural materials.

Overall, this modern barn house reflects a harmonious balance of tradition and innovation, emphasizing sustainability, functionality, and a deep connection to its natural surroundings.
